If you look around you will find there are three kinds of people, or
better put, three ways to look at “failure”. If you know me, then you
know I don’t like the word failure in the first place. I think people
need to be in the mindset that failure is just another word for try
again. What I recently learned is “try again” does nothing if you
don’t change your strategy. More on that in a moment.

The first way to look at failure is to say “I failed because I’m not
good enough” or “I failed because it was too difficult”. Then start
making excuses, blame anyone but yourself, complain and give up. These
people say it did not work, so lets forget about it. Then they go on
to something else. This makes me wonder why they try anything in the
first place. Reminds me of the guy I mentioned in a previous post
who never wants to try anything new. You can’t fail if you don’t try to do anything.

The second way to look at failure is to say you need to try harder. In
this group, you don’t think you fail because you are not good enough,
it is because you did not try hard enough. They try harder next time,
still don’t get results, so the try even harder the next time. They
try again and still don’t get the results they want, so what do they
do? You guessed it. Now eventually, if they target small goals, they
will hit them. However if they set high goals, it is rare that they
will reach those goals. They will improve by taking so much action but
they won’t hit the goals they really want. They never live the kind of
life they want. The reason is they keep on taking action but they
don’t change their strategy. In other words, if you keep on doing the
things you are doing today, you will reap the same results. After a
while, these people get really frustrated. I have seen many sales
people and network marketers fall into this category, and you will see
people in every business in this category. They work harder, see more
people, but more or less they stay in their comfort zone of doing the
same things the same old way. After a while they say “I’ve tried so
hard, I’ve tried everything” and they get cynical. They look at people
who have experienced success and think they are just lucky people.

So what is the answer? The third group of people respond to failure
very differently. In fact, they don’t even see failure as failure.
They say, “I did not fail. I just got feedback that I used the wrong
strategy.” By looking at not reaching their goals as just a sign to
change direction, to try something new, to change their strategy they
do not feel bad. They do not get demoralized, rejected, or depressed.
They still feel empowered, they still feel motivated. Without
realizing it, they use what is called reflective intelligence. They
are able to notice what went wrong with the strategy and they have the
ability to change their behavior and do whatever it takes to take
action again and again until they get the result they want.

So I hope you can take these examples of three ways to look at
“failure”, and make an effort to change your thinking. Decide that if
at first you don’t succeed, change your strategy and try again. Don’t
be defeated, don’t think you are not lucky, and by all means, don’t
just simply try again using the same methods that did not work in the
first place.

I have been studying behavioral based development strategies used by
individuals who are seeking to establish their legacy and bring their
life and leadership responsibilities into full harmony. Doing so, I
have found it easy to mirror those same strategies in my life. I often
wonder why so many people don’t do this, and remain stagnant, happy to
live mediocre lives, never making a difference in themselves or
others. Is this really going to make someone happy in life?

I remember a man telling me he was happy, his simple life, simple job,
did not want to make any more money, did not want to change anything.
I prompted him with questions like what if you need a new car? Answer:
I like my car, don’t need anything else. What if you want to go
somewhere, like during your next vacation time off? Answer: I don’t
want to go anywhere. I like this town just fine. After a short
conversation along these lines I gave up also. It was painfully
obvious to me that he gave up a long time ago and had no goals or
desires he would admit. That conversation was about three years ago,
and he has not gone back to school, or changed anything about his
life. Practically everything around him has changed, and he is one
decision away from unemployment, with no skills to support him.

It is clear to me, that while I want to grow, learn, stretch beyond my
current abilities, and help anyone I can along the way, not everyone
wants to. I find that sad, but certainly OK with me. If you think the
world will continue to cater to you, while you give nothing in return;
good luck with that. I can’t help anyone who does not want to help
themselves.

If you want to learn new and exciting things in 2011, then I certainly
am interested in helping you. So I will be changing the direction of
my writing to focus on methods and principles to improve your personal
and business success. Of course I will still write about cleaning, but
I will be writing more about cleaning up your life then cleaning up
your facility.

2010 was a great year. I helped several people grow and move up in
their careers. I watched many more improve greatly beyond their
beliefs that they could, and have taken a lot of notes. While I have
been absent online, I have gathered a wealth of material, I’ve been
testing it, and I’ve seen tremendous results. I am going to be sharing
all this with you here. You will learn how attitudes can be changed,
how to start and grow your own business, how you can turbo boost your
productivity at your current job, and how you can have anything you
want, if you are willing to help others along the way.

So starting today, I want you to tell yourself “I Am A Success!” ask
yourself, “What is My Next Move?” Then begin planning it. Don’t be
afraid, don’t hesitate, don’t put it off until tomorrow. Start today.

Tomorrow we begin to look at three ways people look at failure. Since
the more action we take, the more “failures” we have, looking at this
the right way will remove a stumbling block.

1. If you really want to do something, write it down. I have proven this several times.

2. Don’t listen to negative people who think something can’t be done.

3. While you don’t listen to the negative people, try to help them see the positive in life.

4. Budgets are more important each year. See item 1.

5. Exercise is important each day. Don’t fool yourself into thinking three days a week is enough. This is a great stress reducer.

6. Friends should come first, Try to make friends with everyone. See item 3.

7. Having a personal journal really helps with the year end review. See item 1 again.

8. Books and other self education is an investment with guaranteed returns. Better than any stock market.

9. It is ok to try new things.

10. Don’t sweat the small things. Really.

First plant 3 rows of peace: PERSISTENCE, PATIENCE, PEACE OF MIND

Next, plant 4 hills of squash: SQUASH GOSSIP, SQUASH GRUMBLING, SQUASH SELFISHNESS, SQUASH APATHY

Then plant 3 rows of lettuce: LET US BE KIND, LET US BE RESPONSIBLE, LET US BE RESPECTFUL.

No garden is complete without turnips: TURN UP WITH A SMILE, TURN UP WITH A HEALTHY ATTITUDE

Water regularly with confidence and love and let your garden bring forth both thankfulness and forgiveness.

IF WE COULD ALL REMEMBER TO CULTIVATE THIS, NO CHALLENGE WOULD BE TOO GREAT; AND WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD THIS WOULD BE.

WISHING YOU & YOUR LOVED ONES A BLESSED AND SAFE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY!

I just looked at my last post and realized it’s been too long between posts, and I still have not updated the download files area. Actually I have not created it because I was going to setup a link to have ask for it and have it sent automatically to your email. The good news is that it’s only because I’ve been working hard to provide you with something valuable, the bad news is that I feel like I have so much to share that I’m not sure where to start.

So, why not with today. At our Environment of Care Committee meeting, also call Safety Committee in the past, one from our quality department noted that I seemed to be having fun with the meeting. I asked if that was ok and was greeted with a resounding absolutely. I asked if there was a motion and quickly there was a motion and several seconds. Well, we now have an agenda item for fun at each meeting.

So other than that fun today, I have been busy re-adjusting job routines. Yes once again things change and my staff are such gems that they understand and work together. Times are tough everywhere but we have a mission to clean for health, and looks so teamwork rises to the challenge and we adjust. So, until I get a little more situated here on this site let me leave you with this thought:

There are three types of people in the world

Those that make things happen, those that watch things happen, and those who ask what happened?

What type are you?

I want to share this news story because it really explains a common, recurring situation that occurs when custodian, housekeepers and other service workers really love their jobs and the people they serve.

MUSKOGEE, OK — Everyone remembers Pete Robbins’ characteristic greeting to the children as they came into the building at the start of the school day, according to the Muskogee Phoenix.

"Every morning he stood at the door and gave every child a high-five, a smile and a ‘good morning’ as they came through that door," said Carolyn Stach, a teacher at Fort Gibson for 43 years.

Robbins died on Sept. 27 at the age of 89, the article noted.

"Pete was the kind of guy who never met a stranger," said Roger Shaw, long-time principal at Fort Gibson School while Robbins worked there.

"He knew every child in school. Every one of them had a nickname," Shaw added.

"Sometimes it is the people who seem to have a small part in our lives that make the biggest impact, and Pete was certainly one of those people," said Cheryl Todd, a 1989 graduate of Fort Gibson High School.

"He would still recognize you 30 years after you were in school. For many of us, he was our parents’ custodian, then ours, then our kids’," Todd stated.

I was recently at an event, and I was called to the front of the room to give a testimonial. I told my story, how I went from a front line worker to a Director. I talked about how I became a leader and gave some advice on how others can too.

Immediately after I walked back to my seat, a man approached me and asked,“how can I use the word leader if I don’t know that I am one?”

Here’s my simple answer to that, until you feel and believe that you are a leader and you are going to be successful at your business, it will NEVER work!

My biggest advice to those out there that don’t consider themselves leaders is this:  NEVER LACK CONFIDENCE, ALWAYS BELIEVE YOU ARE A LEADER UNTIL YOU ARE ONE!

Confidence is the number one skill that all leaders possess. I talk to so many people that “pass off’ their responsibilities. This is a guaranteed way to failure.

Learn from the best and then BE the best.

To your success!

John Weir

Over the past several weeks, as a lot of you know, I’ve had a TON of stuff going on, survey’s disaster drill planning, policy updates and more! And I’ve gotten a TON of work from home business ideas for my company that I haven’t been able to put into action yet because I’ve been so busy!

As a result, I haven’t been focused like I should have been and realized that maybe I need to double up with my self improvement. When I’m feeling unfocused and unproductive I am AWARE of it and do whatever I can at that moment to work on it and am constantly improving myself.

Recently I saw a gentleman named Benny Morris speak on self improvement and how to break past the barriers in our lives.

Dr. Benny Morris:

ALL of you have heard the whole “break past your beliefs” thing and probably have heard it many times. This seminar was NOT just another self-help “thing,” I originally wasn’t going to talk about this for that reason, but I decided what I learned was too valuable to share and would really improve your business ten fold!

Before I get into everything I’ve learned, I want to give you a brief history on Dr. Morris, to show you his credibility. Benny owned the FIRST Tony Robins Franchise and went on to tour with Tony across the country. In addition, he’s created a 5 step method (Valeo Method) on how to achieve your goals and dreams and his book is fantastic! He truly practices what he preaches and that is SO important when you’re listening to ANY leader!

What I Learned That Changed My Business and Life Forever:

During the seminar, thinking about why I still feel like I have things holding me back, yet I’m successful and really feel somehow at the same time that I give my business my all! I was confused and frustrated with myself.

Then Benny asked, “How many of you are living up to 50% of your potential,” NO ONE raised their hand, then he asked how many were living up to 10% of their potential, NO ONE raised their hand!!

This was it! I was NOT using all of my potential and I KNEW it! How crazy is that?? Most of us know that we’re not using our full potential, and still continue to do a half ass job day in and day out. We sit back and make excuses for not doing something and justify it with our EGO, then it never gets done!

What I learned at that seminar was to really push yourself to make a positive, disciplined, productive routine into a habit. There is no excuse for lack of discipline, and really no excuse for ultimate failure. Sure we might fail here and there, but that’s part of success!! However if you let that failure defeat you I HIGHLY suggest you figure out why and fix the problem within.

We’ve all been told this, but how many of us actually follow it?

So Here’s My Action Step For You TODAY:

Here’s what I want you to do every day, for the rest of your life ;) ! Whenever a thought comes into your head like “oh you can’t do that,” “You’re too young, You’re too old” blah blah blah, imagine it leaving your mind, grabbing that thought, throwing it into a trash bin tied to a helium balloon and floating away into space…

Your Ego is NOT your friend! It will say anything to you to keep you from your goals, and this is why you have to make these little mental pictures and tricks to keep it from taking you over.

Finally I want to tell you that Affirmations are so important. Admittedly I had stopped writing them, but from today on I am going to write them every single day, they condition our subconscious to allow us to be successful and free from mental barriers. Let’s write them together, after all repetition and routine will turn into habit :) .

To Your Success!

Remember, HIPAA is very important, our patients are counting on us to protect them.

Some of the basic steps of office cleaning are presented here…

We had our “long awaited” Joint Commission Survey the beginning of this week. It seemed like forever, waiting for them to arrive… not really. While it might have seemed like a long time, it really was just another week for a hospital that prides itself on being the best possible caregiver to meet the physical, and spiritual needs of the community.

Environmental Services is the department that cleans, disinfects, and fights infection in every hospital. ES for short, is a department that touches every aspect of a healthcare facility, every patient, every staff member and every visitor. My team is no different, but we try to be different in one aspect; we don’t “get ready” for survey’s like The Joint Commission, or CMS, we practice survey readiness everyday.

A quick tip regarding recognition.
